I'm Right Where God Wants Me

I was there, and now I’m right where God wants me.

It just amazes me, all the time, at how much God can change people’s lives. I always thought it was a little weird how people came to Christ, gave their hearts, lives to Him, and how they just wanted to talk about it all the time. I thought it was a little weird at a bare minimum, and fanatical for sure. Then, I went through something in my life I never in a million years thought I would have to go through, endure. It was a very dark time for me, and I thought for sure I was doomed as a failure, that God had blessed me so much and that I had wasted all of it. I was selfish, self-centered, just spoiled beyond belief, and there I was…at the bottom of the barrel of life.

But then something happened, one morning I went to my knees in complete desperation as I had done many times before, but this time something was different, very different. For the first time in my life, I really meant it, my heart was completely broken, and God knew it, and He met me there in my plea of repentance. He changed my heart, I actually felt it. Long story short, when I returned to the area I was living in at the time, everyone noticed that something had changed in me; I was different. People who didn’t even believe in God liked me a lot more, trusted me, felt comfortable talking to me, and sharing with me.

The other amazing thing that happened was I was able to meet others, who were former drug dealers, or addicts, alcoholics, and worse, I could not imagine these people doing what they in their testimony said they had done. I was absolutely stunned frequently.   The first thing I noticed was how calm and peaceful they were; all of them had this in common, and so did I. I noticed that even when something went wrong or was not perfect, I felt different, and I asked them about that. The hectic, anxiety-filled, chaotic life we were living was gone. Like I said, there was still struggle, things didn’t always go right or even as expected, but I could tell I was different, and I could tell they were as well.

The next thing I noticed was they were not afraid of the scars, of the failures, the hurt, the pain they had endured, and put others through. They wanted to share, talk about it. They often cried, still in speaking about it, mostly about hurting others in whatever way they did, and of course, so do I still.  God had changed them and given them a powerful testimony that others would hear and potentially be changed. The amazing part to me was that they automatically became speakers, ambassadors for Christ, disciples, who said out loud, no matter what it is that you have done, you can be forgiven, changed, right here, right now, today, and people were, they were never the same again. Marriages restored, families restored and reunited, relationships long broken, fixed…all of it. Who wouldn’t want to go tell everyone about that if that happened to you? God changes lives; it’s that simple. What’s the catch?

The catch is it can’t be faked; it can’t be out of emotion; it must be in surrender. I was wrong, I’m wrong, I’m broken, I’m bad, I’m hurting, and I cannot do this life anymore without you, Lord. Please forgive me, change me, take over my heart, my soul, my mind, and my body. I’ve come to realize that God can meet us exactly where we are, no matter what. Are we ready to give it to Him 100%, to admit our selfishness, our failures, our disobedience, and, with contrite hearts, allow Him to take charge? I think we forget that He knew us before we were born, He watched us as we formed in the womb, every single day of our lives was laid out before a single day had passed. When we surrender 100% to Him, He changes us, puts us back on the track that He wants…Lord, your will, what you want, and those actions repeated lead to a different us.
